Improve Your Marketing! 7 eCommerce Strategies to Know

When it comes to eCommerce marketing, there are several strategies you should know. You can learn more about these eCommerce strategies here.

You have great products to sell that you know consumers will love. So, you set up your eCommerce site and wait for the orders to start pouring in.

But after a few days, your orders are still minimal. What gives?

The truth is that having a great product or service is only one part of running a successful eCommerce business. The other major indicator of sales and profit comes from great marketing.

You don't have to be an expert in marketing to successfully advertise and sell for your business.

With these 7 eCommerce strategies, you can learn to effectively build and execute a marketing plan for your business.

1. Organize or Reorganize Your Website Design

Whether you are creating your website for the first time or looking to increase traffic to your existing website, there are a few essential guidelines to follow.

First, consider the overall layout of the site. If your goal is to sell your product or service, the website has to be designed to make shopping and check-out intuitive for the customer.

Next, take a look at the content you have on your landing page and product pages. Is the language clear? Is there enough information, but not too much information that it may be overwhelming.

Think like a consumer - what words and phrases would attract you?

You will also want to look at the icons and clickable links within your website. Double-check that they work correctly, but also that they are appealing and easy to navigate where the link will take the visitor.

2. Use Original Content Marketing

High quality, informative, and interesting content is a great way to attract business to your eCommerce site. Creating original content will establish you as an expert in the eyes of your consumer. Therefore, they will look to your site in the future for not only your expertise but also the products you are providing.

Your eCommerce marketing strategy should include several ideas for original content as well as a schedule and plan to promote that content. Be careful not to saturate your content with promotion because your audience is less likely to feel engaged if they feel you are constantly trying to sell.

3. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

If you've been present for conversations about website marketing strategies you have likely heard or used the term SEO. Search engine optimization is a way to increase the amount of traffic to your eCommerce site via the search engine (Google, Yahoo, Bing).

SEO also improves the quality of traffic to your site meaning that the visitors are likely to engage with your content and buy your product or service.

Essentially, you want your site to pop up when a person searches relevant search terms. You can do this by using pointed keywords in your content, internally linking to your original content, and having the right domain name.

4. Prioritize the User Experience

Resist the urge to flood your site with too many elements. Sometimes keeping it simple is the best strategy. Especially when you consider how many users will be visiting your eCommerce site via a mobile device.

It's crucial to test your site and all its functionality using various mobile devices and screen sizes. If a user has a poor experience on the site, it is unlikely that they will return.

You can even use the mobile device trend to your advantage by using geo-marketing techniques. This allows you to advertise to individuals based on their location.

5. Social Media Marketing

Social media allows you to reach millions of potential customers at one time. And best of all, it's free!

Using Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter you can connect with your customers, get feedback, and see what other things they are interested in.

You can also use Instagram to promote your product or service. You can create a shoppable page that customers can use to purchase items directly from your site.

Social media is not made just for promotion though. The best way to use social media is a combination of promoting and connecting with existing and new customers. Customers may use social media sites to ask questions too, so it's important to have a dedicated resource to managing and responding to your audience's questions.

6. Set Up Email Marketing

Email marketing is an efficient and reliable eCommerce advertising strategy. There are a number of ways to use email marketing including announcing new products, sales on existing products, or other relevant promotions.

In order to get the most out of your email marketing, the visuals and the written content have to grab the reader's attention and call them to action. From the subject line to the sign-off, be creative with your email.

Take advantage of opportunities to personalize your marketing emails too by customizing the advertised products by past purchases or use the customer's name in the subject line.

7. Use Customer Reviews or Testimonials

Once you have successfully established your eCommerce marketing strategies and have satisfied customers singing your praises it is time to add product reviews and/or customer testimonials to your eCommerce site.

When purchasing a new product from your site your potential customer wants to hear from others who have purchased the product.

Was the product shipped on time? Was it the size and shape expected from the pictures? Were they satisfied the first time they used it?

By showcasing customer reviews, you establish your eCommerce site and your brand as one that can be trusted, and that makes a great product.
